Day 2
Aside from religious writings/texts/books, what ten documents/texts/books do you think have been the most influential in shaping the world? Please list them here (do not cut and paste from someone else's list on the internet). Then, include a developed paragraph with a topic or thesis statement (same thing) explaining your reasons for these choices.

My List...and my (extra) long paragraph to back it all up! :)
1) Declaration of Independence
2) The United States Constitution
3) National Geographic
4) The Encyclopedia
5) Webster’s Dictionary
6) Time Magazine
7) Rolling Stone
8) Popular Science
9) Reader’s Digest
10) The Diary of Anne Frank
My choices are a little strange. To be honest, I chose materials that I was somewhat familiar with myself.
The Declatation of Independence and the U.S. Constitution are my top two for obvious reasons; I mean, how would we be governed if they DIDN'T have some type of influence?
I added National Geographic, the Encyclopedia and Webster's Dictionary because I relied on these sources-and learned from them-for the duration of my entire childhood. I especially love the photos in National Geographic. They're so real-life to me.
I feel the same way about Time Magazine. There's so much more to the world than politics and money and fame. Time and Reader's Digest introduce you to a world that is so much bigger than all of that. It takes you into real issues that everyday people face in every culture in the world!
Popular Science and Rolling Stone, in my opinion, are huge contributors to the pop-culture our country had adopted over the many years. They have recorded and documented so much of how we have evolved through our technology and music.
Finally, I chose The Diary of Anne Frank. I chose this book because like all of my other choices, it is real. I admire people like Anne Frank-people that have endured so much hell and turmoil, yet are brave enough to share the experience with the hope that someday the world will be different. I think her book made a huge impact on our society. Sometimes, I wish she could have lived to see how much she really accomplished just by keeping a diary.
**Sorry this was SSSOOO long, but I really wasn't sure if this was the 'type' of paragraph you were looking for**
Thanks!
I know it is going to sound bad for me but I have to go with most of Jen's list with a few exceptions.
1. Declaration of Independence
2. U.S.Constitution
3. Emancipation Proclemation
4. Encyclopedia
5. Webster's Dictionary
6. Magna Carta
7. The Cat in the Hat
And that would be about it that I can think of right now. The first 6 are easy to figure out. They changed countries, allowed the persuit of knowlage, and freed people from all different kinds of tyranny. But Dr. Seuss has led the world to help start learning at an early age. His magical world has enable children around the globe to forget about their circumstances and to learn on a level most of them have never been offered before. I know people will laugh at this but I really do not care. In fact I believe that The Cat in the Hat belongs on the top of the list.
1.)National Geographic
2.)Encyclopedia
3.)Ebony Magazine
4.)Time Magazine
5.)Webster Dictionary
6.)Real Science
7.)Bio-Tech
8.)The Conner
9.)Vibe Magazine
10.)Street Credit
1.)National Geographic
2.)Encyclopedia
3.)Ebony Magazine
4.)Time Magazine
5.)Webster Dictionary
6.)Real Science
7.)Bio-Tech
8.)The Conner
9.)Vibe Magazine
10.)Street Credit
These are the books and magazine I have chosen for this particular blog. I personally think National Geographic has always keep people informed about what goes on in other countries, also the magazine refers to wild life. The Encyclopedia is my next choice for being a great source of information. Like looking up history or finding out about animals or plant life. The Ebony magazine talks about successful black African Americans. This magazine can help young black people set goals and accomplish them. The Webster 's Dictionary is infamous for helping people with spelling words and having the definition for what ever word your looking for. Real Science is a magazine that keeps people updated on new technology. Biotech is similar to the Real Science magazine except this talks about new inventions that can help people in the medical field so they can help patients. The Conner is a magazine that talks about people that live in the projects and are struggling. This keeps people informed on what goes on in the lower income apartments. Vibe magazine talks about successful black entertainers and what it is like in the spotlight and what they went through coming up at a early age. I think the Vibe magazine inspires young people to reach their goals in the music industry. Street credit is a book that talks about people who are known in the streets and notorious for selling drugs then they go to jail and turn their life around. This helps young people by not making the wrong decision. So they don't end up dead or in jail. These are reading material I think change and influence the world.
My list of books that have impact on the world.
1-Studies on Laws in Government and State
2-Medical Dictionary
3-Webster Dictionary
Laws in this country has formed and shaped this this great nation.
1.The Declaration of Independence, 2.The U.S. Constitution, 3.The Gettysburg Address, 4.Einstein’s e=mc squared theory, 5.The origin of species (Darwin Theory), 6.The Art of War, 7.Bill of Rights, 8.Emancipation Proclamation, 9.War and Peace, 10.The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Not to make the U.S. sound like the center of the Universe, however, it would be hard to imagine the world if this country had never came to be. Some of these ten documents and books listed above are the ones that come to my mind when asked what I think are the most influential in shaping the world to what it is today. Most of them listed have a lot to do with important moments in U.S history. I could not imagine how it would of turned out if the Emancipation Proclamation was not written when it was. Life without the constitution the document that protects our individual rights as U.S. citizen for me is hard to imagine. Actually it’s not hard to imagine because it would be just like living in North Korea.
Well, I’m not a very good reader, so that cause me to often intend to keep myself from reading. I tried to tackle this weakness and make the improvement. Therefore, these are some of the magazine and show that have been the most influential in shaping the world: National Geographic, Time Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, PC Magazine. The most famous show that I like is The National Geographic channel. It has the good combination of excitement and science fact that I can learn a lot from the show.
My list, even though some may not have impacted the world, they have impacted my life in one way or another
1. Declaration of Independence
2. U.S Constitution
3. The Shining
4. Guiness Book of Records
5. Sports Illustrated
6. Fangoria
7. Crystal Lake Memories
8. Screams and Nightmares
9. War of The Worlds
10. Any Screenplay from George Lucas LOL
This is my list. As i said it may not have changed the world but it has impacted me. Maybe it's just me but it seems anything George Lucas puts out, normally has a large following and is very successful!
The world is a vast and strange place. It would be hard for me to list 10 things written that have change it. So here are some things that have influenced my life, enjoy.
Cat in the Hat
Understanding Human Nature
The Moral Animal
An Anatomy of Thought
Auto Trader
The Handy Physics Answer book
The Four Agreements
Any thing by Shell Silverstein
All Tech Pubs
And any Thesaurus
1) The Declaration of independence
2) War and peace
3) Mein Kampf
4) N.A.F.T.A.
5) The Louisiana Purchase
6) The Bill of Rights
7) The creation of the U.N
8) The Geneva Convention
9) The Holocaust
10) The fall of the Soviet Union
The Declaration of Independence changed the world because it allows every human being in the United States several unalienable rights. War and peace is a book that changed the way the world is by describing the time When Napoleon invaded Russia. He became an undercover spy and brought down the Russian military. Mein Kampf is a book written about Adolf Hitler. This book told the workd what he was about and what his plan was. N.A.F.T.A. Is the North American Free Trade Agreement . Thi agreement was created tp ensure free trade among different countries . The Louisana Purchae changed the world by bring the thirteen colonies together so that this country we live in could become a whle. The Bill of Rights is a document saying which rights we have as citizens of the united states. The creration of the U.N. The U.N. was created to promote world peace between all of the different nation in the world. The Geneva Convention Changed the world because it was created to have other people go easy on the wounded soldiers. The holocaust greatly effected the world because millions of people died because of one person. The fall of the Soviiet Union changed the woreld bcause now there is not a depression over the cold war anymore.
I think that these ten things xchanged the way the world is now because if thee things did noit happen the workld would not be the way it is now. I couldn’t even believe what it would be like if these ten things were never written or accomplished.
Not sure what books i would choose as the most influential. So i will list some books that have, quite literally, changed my life.
1. Watchman
2. Hop on Pop
3. The strategy guide to Final Fantasy VII
4. The Lone Wolf and Cub series
5. Life of Pi
6. The Most Dangerous Game (Hell yea, id hunt other people)
7. Dark Knight Returns
8. Maniac Magee
9. Wayside School
and last but not least....
10. X-Men: Age of Apocalypse
Other books that I have read that has made such a profound effect on the civilization is
1-Diary of Ann Frank which illistrates her life in the rain of Hitler and how his beliefs almost destroyed the Jewish people, but he did not suceed.
2- Autobigraphy of Hitler, how and why he disliked a group of people which his heritage was the same. How he fell in love with his own cousin.
3- Coming of age in Mississippi. ( Anne Moody) This is a true story of the life of Anne Moody. She was a part of civial rights movement. She also was involved with SNCC, and part of the protest.
These book dipect the misunderstanding of a group of people to another group of people that has change the laws and tolerance of people, one to another.
1) Catch 22
2) Message in a Bottle
3) My Last Dutchess
4) Great Expectations
5) Why The Toast Always Lands Butter-Side Down
6) The Great Gatsby
With the exception of "My Last Dutchess," all of these are books. All of these works may not be recognized on a global level, but they contribute greatly to society. From the comedic escape Yossarian pulled off in Catch 22, to the dramatic redemption Pip gains in Great Expectations, these works show a range of humanity's flaws and their redeeming qualities. Why do we love? Why do we strive? Why do we dream? These books attempt to answer these questions. They may not affect society politically or worldy, but they affect our emotions, they way we think, and the way we view ourselves and other human beings.
Green eggs and Ham
Cosmopolitan
Diary of Ann Frank
Out magazine
Webster
Any Encyclopedia
The Book of Restoration and Balancing
Declaration of Independence
U.S Constitution
"What We Call It" by Koran Garris
I believe any book that gives people a voice has and will continue to shape the world. The books in my list are only a small few of the books that i have read that i believe without them some voices would have never been heard. From creating our country to giving us links to the past, the only way to have your voice truly heard is to write it down. You never know who your words may touch or what they may inspire someone to do.
I think they are:
1.The Principles of human knowledge.(written by George Berkeley)
2. The Dictionary of english language.(written by Samuel Johnson)
3. The Encyclopedia.(by Denis Diderot.ed)
4. The Interpretation of dreams.(Sigmund Freud)
5. The Feminine Mystique.(Betty Friedan)
6. The Universe next door.(James Sire)
7. April 4, 1968 (Michael Eric Dyson)
8. The Bill of Rights.(James Madison)
9. Uncle Tom's Cabin.(Harriet Beecher Stowe)
10. The Orgin of Species.(Charles Darwin).
I think that all of these books and people breached a way to change the world by what they have researched or experienced through there life. Lke for example Martin Luther King all he had was a dream of a world that could live racialy together. Or James Sire he wanted people to know of the different countries and there cultures(or their way of life). Uncle Tom's Cabin was just a book published to show how bad and cruel slavery was and it is said that that book started the big (civil war).
